As the harvest season draws to a close here at Ayres Farms in Carroll County, it's a time to reflect on both the hard work completed and the tasks still ahead. While the fields may soon appear quiet, the work is far from over. You'll find us, along with other local farm families, out in the fields hauling manure. This crucial step enriches our soil and ensures our crops remain green and sustainable for the coming year.
In addition to spreading manure, we'll be tilling the soil through plowing, chiseling, or ripping. These practices are vital for weed prevention, allowing us to minimize the use of chemicals in the following year. It's a labor-intensive process, but one that pays off in healthier crops and a more sustainable environment.
We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to our community members who have shown patience and understanding by slowing down or moving over as we transport large equipment from field to field. Your small gestures of kindness are deeply appreciated, especially during these long, tireless hours in the fields. It's reassuring to know that there are those who still care out there.
This season has not been without its challenges. We've witnessed several tragedies within our local farming community, from combine fires to the heartbreaking loss of a seasoned farmer in one such fire. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected by these tragedies. We also extend our gratitude to the Fire, EMS, and Officers who have worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of those at risk and to contain the spread of fires. Your dedication does not go unnoticed.
As we wrap up this harvest season, we remain grateful for the support and camaraderie within our community. Thank you for standing by us and for your continued support.
Thank you,
The Ayres Family
